Contin Forest and Rogie Falls

Contin Forest is managed by the Forestry Commission and is situated 12 miles north of Inverness. The walk, about 3 miles, follows forest tracks and roads and will take you about 2 hours. Rogie Falls is managed by the Scottish National Trust and can be accessed by car from the A835. Walking boots are advisable.
Take the A835 towards Contin and Ullapool. Drive through Contin until you leave the 30 mph speed restriction area. After approximately 50 meters take the right junction into Torrachilty Forest, this is signposted. Follow the car parking signs past the Forestry Commission buildings onto a dirt track until you reach the car park. There are toilets that are locked overnight and in the winter.
You can let your dogs off the lead but beware of other dog walkers, deer in the woods and the occasional forestry vehicle.
From the car park follow the path, red markers, in a northerly direction keeping the Black Water River to your left. After about 150m the main path turns right, this is the short easy walk. You however, carry straight on following the river; the path is a little rougher for the next 500m. After about 200m the path turns to the right and there is a steady climb, with a gorge and burn to your left. Eventually the path meets the main Forest Road. Turn left and walk along the forest road, following blue markers, until you see a sign for Rogie Falls Bridge and Forest Walks. There is also a viewpoint a little further on that overlooks "Rogie Falls" valley.
Head downhill towards Rogie Falls. At Rogie falls there are some steep steps and steep drops and although there are barriers it is probably best to tie your dog to a fence post whilst you look at the falls.
To return you can either retrace the whole route or at the rough track keep to the main forest road, following blue markers. This will eventually return you to the car park area.
